Cruise ship NAUTICA broke off her moorings at Greenock, Glasgow, Scotland, as severe wind battered the area, at around 1030 UTC Sep 19. The ship with 478 passengers on board started to drift, 3 tugs were sent to take her under control said Express.co.uk. According to AIS, as of 1500 UTC operation was still under way, with two tugs still at her side. The ship was brought to anchor, but probably needs assistance to hold on against gale-force wind. Coastal freighter HEIKO suffered engine room fire on the night Sep 19-20 in Vilnesfjorden, Norway, north of Bergen. Four crew were evacuated, and as of early morning Sep 20, fire reportedly, was still on, with several SAR ships and boats deployed in salvage. Ship’s AIS is off for about a year already, so ship’s present status, as of 0600 UTC Sep 20, is unknown. She is loaded with sand and stones. On #Askvoll photo troubled HEIKO.

Floating Dock collapsed, one ship blocked inside VIDEO

Aft section of Floating Dock No.169 collapsed during surfacing with two ships inside: tanker VOSTOK (IMO 7923665 - reportedly, not confirmed) and oceanic trawler PIONER NIKOLAEVA, at 0100 Moscow time Sep 19 at Slavyanka Port, Primorye Russia, Japan sea.. Starboard tower crane fell onto tower deck, crane operator sustained slight injures. Tanker VOSTOK managed to leave dock at 0530 Moscow time, while trawler was blocked inside with damaged by collapsed constructions propeller and rudder.

Tug with barge aground, Great Lakes

Pusher tug DEFIANCE pushing 220-meter barge ASHTABULA, ran aground at around 1850 UTC Sep 21 in Mackinac Strait between Mackinac and Round islands, which is connecting Great Lakes Huron and Michigan, said Great Lakes and Seaway Shipping News. Tug ran aground in stormy weather conditions, with wind gusting to 64 mph, added the edition. Tug departed Cedarville, Mich., and was transiting to its next port of call in Buffington, Ind., barge loaded with stone. As of 0700 UTC Sep 22, tug and barge were still aground, no tugs spotted nearby, probably waiting weather improvement to start refloating. Coast Guard has established a safety zone prohibiting the transit of vessels over 100 gross tons through Round Island Passage and prohibiting all vessels from navigating within 200 yards of the Ashtabula/Defiance. No leak reported.

Coaster aground, crew airlifted to safety, Norway

General cargo ship OSFJORD ran aground in Linesoya waters, north of Trondheim, Norway, while sailing in southern direction from Brønnøysund to Kristiansund. Early in the morning Sep 22, in rough weather conditions. SAR boat couldn’t approach grounded ship, so helicopter was deployed and ship’s 4 crew were airlifted to safety. The ship remains aground. Understood grounding was caused by mechanical failure, which disabled the ship.

General cargo ship OMSKIY-207 ran aground on Sep 20 on 2827 kilometer mark, river Volga, while proceeding downstream en route from Kamyshin port, Volga, to Iran, with 2999 tons of grain on board. The ship was refloated same day or on Sep 21, resumed moving, but after passing Astrakhan was turned back and brought to anchor at Astrakhan anchorage early in the morning Sep 22, cause unknown.

General cargo ship SORMOVSKIY 48 is aground since around 0500 Moscow time Sep 21 on Azov – Don Sea Channel west of Don river estuary, Azov sea. The ship loaded with 3202 tons of wheat is en route from Azov port to Samsun, Turkey. MRCC Moscow reported grounding only today Sep 22, adding that a tug was sent to refloat freighter, but as of 1400 Moscow time Sep 22, no tug is around yet.

Bunker tanker GAZPROMNEFT ZUID-WEST ran aground at around 2000 UTC Sep 22 on a coast southeast of Novorossiysk, Russia, Black sea, while en route from Novorossiysk to Tuapse. According to track, tanker should hard aground – she headed straight for coast at full speed, most probably because of bridge watch failure. .

Passenger ship GIPANIS, which is connecting Petropavlovsk Kamchatka with Severo-Kurilsk port, Paramushir island, northern Kuril Archipelago, collided with pier while berthing at Severo-Kurilsk on Sep 23. Bow stern was breached, hole was temporarily patched up, the ship sailed to Petropavlovsk Kamchatka for repairs same day, without passengers. Passengers bound for Petropavlovsk were left behind, with no other means to reach Petropavlovsk.

Was taken on tow by tug MTS INDUS at around 0800 UTC Sep 24, to be towed to Fowey, ETA Sep 25. at 1530 UTC caravan was proceeding northwest at some 4 knots speed, towards Fowey.

Bulk carrier STAR GRIP broke off her moorings at Brake, Weser river, Germany, around midday Sep 24, affected by strong current and wind. The ship contacted berthed bulk carrier S BRONCO (IMO 9311050) and drifted into river fairway, where she was taken under control thanks to crew alertness. Crew managed to start engine and hold the ship on the fairway against current and wind. With the help of tugs, STAR GRIP was taken back to berth. S BRONCO reportedly, sustained slight damage, some scratches and grazed paint.

Cargo ship holed, capsized, 13 crew rescued, China

General cargo ship HAO XIANG 19 in stormy weather ran aground on a reef off Luxi island, east of Wenzhou in Zhejiang province, China, East China sea, issuing distress signal at around 0300 Beijing time Sep 25. The ship loaded with steel, with 13 crew, was en route from Taizhou to Wenzhou. SAR ships were sent, meanwhile the ship developed heavy starboard list caused by hold flooding. 2 of the crew managed to abandon ship in life raft, the rest were trapped on board because all life boats and rafts were were not accessible. By 0530 SAR rescue boats managed to take all 11 crew from the ship, later were rescued 2 crew from life raft. The ship reportedly, capsized.

Ro-ro cargo ship KAPETAN CHRISTOS collided with anchored container ship STADT DRESDEN on Piraeus outer anchorage at around 1930 UTC Sep 25, on arrival from Nisos Naxos, with 11 vehicles and drivers on board. Both ships reportedly sustained damages, KAPETAN CHRISTOS resumed her voyage soon after accident, called Piraeus and left for Elevsis, at 0700 UTC Sep 26 she was at Elevsis. STADT DRESDEN arrived from Egypt, as of 0700 UTC Sep 26 she was still at anchor.

Corvette ERFURT collided with Tirpitz mole at Kiel port on Sep 21, cause unknown. Corvette sustained bow damage, and won’t participate, as planned, in Baltic sea drills.

Cruise ship SOVEREIGN collided with pier while docking at Naples, Italy, at around 0600 UTC Sep 26, on arrival from Barcelona, Spain. Understood the ship struck San Vincenzo terminal, home to local ferries, opposite to cruise ships Stazione Maritima pier. Accident was caused by strong wind in the area, both cruise ship and pier sustained damages, some ferries trips were delayed.

Tanker held by shoaling effect, Scheldt

Update: Inspection didn’t find any damages, tanker was cleared to dock. As it is reported by local sources, it wasn’t bottom contact, tanker encountered shoaling effect, which kept her on one spot for about an hour.
Chemical tanker OBSIDIAN contacted bottom shortly after midnight local time Sep 27 while proceeding upstream on river Scheldt to Antwerp, in front of Hansweert. Was under way again in about an hour. Was brought to anchor at Oude Doel, probably for inspection.

Ferry SABUK NUSANTARA 35 ran aground in position 02 14N 097 47E, some 3 nm south of Sngkil port, Aceh Province, northwest Sumatra, at around 1930 LT Sep 26, shortly after leaving Singkil, bound for Banjak Islands, west of Singkil. There were 12 passengers, 20 crew and some vehicles on board. By morning Sep 27 passengers were evacuated, ferry reportedly is hard aground, no salvage commenced yet. Container fell into container ship DELPHIS RIGA Hold at night Sep 27 during cargo operations at Thessaloniki, Greece. Nobody was injured, extent of damages unknown, the ship detained for inspection. Container fell from crane because crane’s spreader twist locks unlocked by themselves.

Sep 29 Update:
Container ship MERATUS KENDARI 1 was slightly beached and refloated either by own means or with tug’s assistance, moved off coast further into bay, present status unclear – ship’s either drifting or slowly moving around in the bay.
Ferry SABUK NUSANTARA 39 beached after being torn away from the berth, understood she was still aground as of morning Sep 29.
One more cargo ship reportedly was slightly beached, refloated, brought to anchor, no information on damages.
Sep 28:
Container ship MERATUS KENDARI 1 and general cargo ship were beached by tsunami at Donggala, Palu, central Sulawesi, in the afternoon Sep 28. Several ships were beached, only two are identified as of now.
