Update: Tanker was beached as can be seen on video, under the name KAIYU 2, most probably it’s product tanker KAIYU NO.2 (IMO 9016129, dwt 648, built 1990, flag Japan). Pusher tug with barge saddled mole, tug not identified yet. And finally, havoc in Osaka port, container terminal.
Product tanker HOUN MARU was anchored south of Osaka Intl Airport link bridge, dragged anchor at around midday, Tokyo time, Sep 4, when typhoon JEBI struck Osaka Bay. The ship drifted onto bridge and was battered against bridge by gale-force wind and waves. Both bridge and tanker were severely damaged, tanker is disabled, reportedly engine room flooded or experiencing water ingress. As of 1800 Tokyo time, situation didn’t change much – tanker being still stuck in the bridge, 11 crew not yet evacuated. Tanker said to be loaded with kerosene, no confirmed information on leak yet. Tug is trying to approach tanker or give in tow line, according to AIS track.
