Bulk carrier BENITA refloated

Bulk carrier BENITA refloated from reefs at around 1300 LT July 23, a successful salvage operation, carried out by a contracted salvage company. Vessel was lightered during salvage operation. Vessel was breached in grounding, with ensuing oil leak.

Crew grounded bulk carrier in a brawl
June 17, 2016
Bulk carrier BENITA ran aground on southeast coast of Mauritius, Indian ocean, in the morning June 17, while en route from Paradip India to Durban SA. Grounding was caused by a brawl among crew, one of the crew, reportedly engineer, had to be medevaced. What happened exactly, yet unknown, it is said that the engine was turned off by one of brawl participants. Mauritius CG together with police boarded the vessel. Judging from photo, BENITA is hard aground.
