SSL KOLKATA sank on Jul 2 in position 21 26N 088 47E, near Sundarbans and maritime border line between India and Bangladesh. The ship maybe rested on bottom by starboard, in any case she’s said to be partially above water, as she sank in shallow waters. A number of containers already went into water and are floating in the area, endangering shipping. Special salvage team said to be contracted to recover floating containers. Another problem is fuel on board, some 211 tons, but with ship resting on bottom but partially above, fuel can be siphoned from her.
Fire started on Jun 13, abandoned ship drifted aground and remained aground until sinking, still burning.
