Container ship CMA CGM SIMBA was leaving Toliara port, Mozambique, in the afternoon Sep 20, with the help of a port tug Domingue. Tug or on container ship was late with letting go towing line, a strong pull from gathering way container ship capsized the tug. Four from five crew jumped in to the sea and swam to the shore, one of them died later in a hospital, three others are still in a hospital. One of the crew was trapped inside, divers tried for several hours to find and rescue him, but gave up, presuming he already drowned. To everybody’s surprise, he managed to get out from tug, safe and sound. He said air pocket saved his life.
CMA CGM SIMBA, bound for Durban, was detained, understood for investigation, and left Toliara on Sep 22.
