Passenger vessel CARELIA with tourists on board contacted general cargo vessel KELT in Saimaa Canal, in so-called Vyborg Sea Canal leg, on May 27. According to available information, passenger vessel was heading for Vyborg, while KELT was moving to Baltic sea, en route from Siilinjarvi to Landskrona. Both vessels had Russian pilots on board. Vessels were to pass each other (understood – KELT was to overtake CARELIA) at a reduced speed, but KELT didn’t reduce speed, sucking effect drew KELT’s left bow to CARELIA starboard, vessels remained stuck to each other for some 3 minutes. No injures, while vessels suffered dents and scratches.
