On May 27 fire erupted on board of decommissioned Russian Navy landing ship MITROFAN MOSKALENKO and on board of decommissioned Russian Navy destroyer GREMYASHCHIY, docked at Ship Yard No.206, Severomorsk, Murmansk Region Barents sea, Russia. It is not clear though, if both ships were on fire, or only one – local sources said destroyer was on fire, later other sources said landing ship was on fire, even later others said that fire from destroyer spread to landing ship. So it’s anyone’s guess. One thing is for sure – MITROFAN MOSKALENKO definitely was, or still is, on fire. Officials said fire was extinguished, but well, it’s officials who said that, and they went on air only after fire was highlighted by local media and bloggers in social nets. Their statements can’t be taken on face value.
Both ships are comparatively modern, 30-year age is not too much for Navy. Both ships are in process of dismantling, and it is rumored by one of bloggers, that heavy fuel in bottom tank or tanks of one of the ships caught fire during cutting works.
