Great Belt Bridge between Danish islands of Zealand and Funen was closed in the evening Feb 10, after water traffic automatic monitoring system sounded alarm, detecting vessel heading for bridge’s pillar. It was general cargo vessel PERSEUS, proceeding in southern direction en route from Odense to Kiel. Traffic Control Center contacted the vessel, warning the bridge on a dangerous course, and vessel changed the course to a safe one, reportedly minutes before possible collision. Nevertheless, vessel after passing bridge was ordered to anchor for inspection. Police took tests from the captain, 56-year old Lithuanian, suspecting intoxication. Result is to become known on Feb 11. As of 0400 UTC Feb 11, vessel was still at anchor.
