Bulk carrier VELA portside anchor with all 330-meters long cable inadvertently dropped on Aug 11, according to ship’s track, when the ship was in Maldives area, Indian ocean, en route from Singapore to Damietta. Anchor and chain weren’t lost, they remained dangling in the water, making the ship hampered both in speed, down to 3-6 knots, and in maneuverability. VELA limped through Arabian sea and most of Gulf of Aden, until Indian Navy ship INS TEG came to assist, and sent an emergency team. By joint efforts, anchor and chain were recovered and secured on Aug 28, north of Djibouti. Bulk carrier resumed her voyage.
