Panama-flagged coaster YICEL was intentionally beached to avoid sinking on a beach 40 nm off Limon, Manzanillo, Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, in the afternoon Dec 8. Vessel suffered water ingress through cracks or breaches in hull, crew weren’t able take it under control after pumps failed, and Master decided to beach the vessel. No information on cargo, there some 3.5 tons of fuel on board. The salvage plan is to pump out water, refloat vessel and tow her to nearest port, salvage started, reportedly, on Dec 9.
