Tall ship SSV OLIVER HAZARD PERRY still aground, Rhode Island

Sailing School Vessel SSV OLIVER HAZARD PERRY lost power and drifted in Newport Harbor, Rhode Island, USA, at around 1800 LT Oct 15. Disabled tall ship hit multiply leisure boats before running aground, said USCG in its’ statement. The SSV OLIVER HAZARD PERRY, an educational tall ship homeported in Newport, was leaving Bowen's Wharf Seafood Festival with 12 crewmembers aboard when it lost power, adds USCG. Two response boat crews from Station Castle Hill were immediately deployed to the scene, where personnel from the Narragansett Bay Task Force are also helping with the response. No injures, no leak reported. As of 0430 UTC Oct 16, tall ship seemingly was still aground, marked as “not under command”.
SSV OLIVER HAZARD PERRY, IMO 8775560, displacement 550, length 60 meters, three-masted square-rigged ship, maiden voyage 2015, flag USA, built at Rhode Island, owner Oliver Hazard Perry Rhode Island, capacity 49 passengers, crew 17.
